Mrs. Louise Kirtz Massey

 

STAUNTON Mrs. Louise (Kirtz) Massey, 91, wife of the Rev. W. Albert Massey, died at 5:25 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Brightview.  She was born Jan. 31, 1919, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Russell R. and Mary (Mowry) Kirtz.  She was a graduate of Mary Baldwin College and received her Master's in Education from James Madison University.  Before retiring from teaching, Mrs. Massey taught locally at Shelburne and Beverley Manor schools, and National Business College in Roanoke. She also taught in Pennsylvania.  She served faithfully with her husband as Pastor, Assistant District Superintendent, and District Superintendent (Pilgrim Holiness) in what is now the Shenandoah District of The Wesleyan Church. 

She was a member of Parkway Wesleyan Church in Staunton.

In addition to her husband, family includes her children, Ronald and Anne Massey of Urbanna, Beverley (Massey) and the Rev. Leland Collins of Winchester and Ray and Kathy Massey of Dallas, Pa.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John R. and Beverly Kirtz, Paul W. and Dottie Kirtz and Phillip and Billie Kirtz; four sisters, Glenna (Kirtz) and Charles Carroll, Hallie (Kirtz) and Dr. Melvin Dieter, Katherine Gilbert and Rebecca Demasters; three grandchildren, Michelle Massey, Michael Massey and Kristin Massey; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth and Reuben Jenkins and Marie Malcomb.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes Gunsalus, Jeanne Skorupski and Grace Puffenbarger.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, in Parkway Wesleyan Church by Pastor Barry Lawson. A fellowship luncheon will be provided following the service. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Henry Funeral Home.
